Episode 016 : In this video, I disassemble and re-assemble the Atari VCS to find the upgrade slots. I make some mistakes and point out some tips on being careful if you plan to open your console. Also, I found some hidden secrets on the mainboard. Tune in to find out.

Too bad the APU is soldered, that makes it kind of boring because it would be cool to throw in a 2400G.
I just wish they would offer a more powerfull version. Aya neo has better spec than this in a hanheld format. I love the board layout and the looks . Atari was my first console as a infant so for me is nostalgic as well .
Honestly, I love the 'It just works' interface they've come up with. If I could figure out a way (or if someone out there does it) to put a Shadow tech launcher in there, then I would love this completely. It would be a 100% solution for all my games. As it stands, I have a mini-PC out front running shadow for all my steam games that need heavy hardware, and then the miniPC itself can handle most retro games on it's own… but how awesome would it be to just have everything running in that 'console'?
I will absolutely buy games from their in-store shop and so forth to support the ecosystem if that's the road they go down.
gulp does the wifi and USB ports still work?
do you have a link for that screwdriver kit on the table?
If you break a ribbon latch, find a 0.1-0.2mm sheet of plastic, cut it to size and wedge it into the connector. That will be enough to hold it securely. Not to be rude, but honestly, if you don't know that much or how WiFi antennas connect you shouldn't be doing this. Learn and practice on junk hardware first.
I see Yar on the board.
screwdriver set?? where to get? thnkxx
I think these "retro" consoles are forgetting one very important factor, and that is adding analogue outs for CRT screens, component, scart or composite.
I'll hope to see a emulation vídeo soon
I want one idc what anyone says
sub for all disassembly
Atari VCS with windows 10 installed or Alienware Steam Alpha R1 for my living room PC ?
Maybe the next round of units will have a access door for the ram ??
I admit: I like it.
what processor does it have, what ryzen rivals what GPU does it have, what NVidia rivals with
The antenna wires glued to the top shell is just a bad design. They could have routed it to the back io and bam easily user serviceable. Also cool your jets on those heavy hands man you gotta be gentle with those connectors.
another piece of shit console like the mini nes mini psx mini shit
With the lid off it looks like a PS2 slim.
Too expensive for what it is..
I don't know why, but I believe in this thing. I'm going on eBay to buy a backer unit.
Grandioso!…Feliz Año 2021…Atari For Ever!
Interesting video. As you said a learning a experience. I hesitated whether to mention somethings, so hopefully this come across as constructive and positive. I was surprised you didn't know what a miniPCIe slot an M.2 slot were. Also, just for clarity, you referred to the RF shied as a heatsink as well, the heatsink is mounted directly over the CPU/GPU, though it's possible the RF Shield may provide some heat dissipation for other components. The WIFI card is a standard miniPCIe card, which is what 99% of laptops including MacBooks use, the antenna cables are standard as well, however it is somewhat surprising the way Atari has mounted them on the top of the case. Both the miniPCIe and M.2 are industry standards from the PCI-SIG and are quite common. The RAM modules are standard DDR4 SO-DIMMs. Overall quite an upgradeable system, including the wifi (though antennas may limit this).
Keep learning and keep working hard!
Ridiculous that you can’t easily access the RAM. That antenna connector is usually a simple pop off/pop on action and and it’s a shame you didn’t realise that ribbon cable was easy to remove. Still, you won’t make that mistake again…. one broken USB port 😣
Cool to see a break down, but this thing seems like junk considering how expensive it is.
You could have just go on the Atari Discord server, and checked the PDF file on how to open it xD
Seems you never open and disassemble a laptop computers :p
This was excellent. I hope that a future video will show you adding more RAM and a SATA SSD to this system.
Console look nice
My PC has that RAM… Have to update. They should invest and town down the price too
Very much appreciated video it definitely shows their hard efforts making the system Worthy, I find it odd that they would make the Wi-Fi antennas that short I'd prefer that they would make them a little bit longer or at least wrap around the case for a better wi-fi signal but them being that short or that close together it makes it really uncomfortable for console modders or system editors thanks again for a very well detailed video.

Cool video I can’t do that to mine haha. can you or someone on here send me an eBay link to whatever type of Windows thumb drive I need to buy to boot up in Windows mode? I’m trying to get this online world tour golf game to play but needs Windows. Also is there anyway to play the classic version of Pac-Man or space invaders??? I was so bummed that it didn’t come with either and neither is on the bee $5 download either! Any help is greatly appreciated!
I was happy to see some of your previous videos, but this one left me doing a face-palm.
It would have been easier if you had looked at the Atari Support owners FAQ. There was already an document (written by AtarI) with a step-by-step how to safely open the case, and replace the RAM. Likewise, there is a document (written by AtarI) already with a step-by-step procedure for how to install an M.2 SATA SSD inside, and which parts you need. You could then have avoided breaking the ZIF USB connector as well.
Sometimes rushing to reinvent the wheel is not the best way to go. (Still, we all have bad days. Next time…)
400 dollars is not just the base system it is the system and 2 controllers When they sell the system bare it will be around the 250 range. I wish people would stop comparing this thing to a 400 PC a proper comparison would be a 250 dollar PC.
